Tasting new cuisines and learning more about the culinary heritage of a country are undoubtedly my primary motivations for traveling.
When I travel, I travel for food in Africa & wherever in the world !
I am passionate about culinary tourism and I am currently on a mission to promote it in Côte d’Ivoire. I promise to tell you more in another blog post but for now here are some of the African countries I would love to visit for their cuisines:
I am part Senegalese & I lived in Senegal for 3 months in my last year of High School. I am pretty much knowledgeable about Senegalese classic dishes however, I am interested in learning more and in traveling "off the beaten path" in other regions of the country.
I fell in love with Ethiopian food when I was in the US. As a West African I was already accustomed to eating with my hands in a communal plate, however my love for Ethiopian food goes beyond the eating etiquette. The delightful balance between the flavors, the atmosphere while eating, the coffee ceremony and so much more…these are the experiences I would love to enjoy in the country itself.
When it comes to Kenya, I am really just curious about its cuisine. I have had a Kenyan housemate when I was in college, and I clearly remember our long conversations around the dinner table about our respective countries and the meals we loved and missed. Ever since then, I promised myself I would one day visit Kenya and that day has yet to come.
To say that I fell in love with South Africa in 2015 is an understatement. I spent 10 days exploring Joburg and Cape Town but honestly, I am still yearning for more adventures. Culinary speaking, I still have so much to taste from shisa nyama to bobotie and bunny chow, chakalaka…the list just goes on and on. I literally cannot wait to go back!
